That's one of those sacred trees in shinto! I know those folded paper tassels are important, because I remember the Goddess in Kannagi attaching them to a toy magical girl wand to help her "purify" stuff.

I didn't know the word for the combo of the two, but I knew sakaki and shide. Amusingly, I have been in multiple conversations with Japanese adults who didn't know the word for shide.

See, based on the shape of the leaves I would have said some kind of citrus. However, based on the alt text I don't think that's correct since I haven't heard of lemons being used in Shinto rituals.
