Given The King is head of the Commonwealth, who has already reaffirmed support for Canada's sovereignty, an unusual political move, this would have been the UK / Starmers way of backing Canada while Starmer continues to keep Trump on side with the peace talk negotiations.
If you mean that bullshit of wearing his King of Canada gear in the most obscure possible setting- so obscure as to be deliberately unnoticeable- no. And no, Starmer has very definitely not backed us. Though European leaders- equally engaged in Ukraine- had no trouble doing it.
Everyone understands that Starmer is desperate to get that US special relationship trade treatment to try to repair Brexit damage. Fine. But he should not expect applause from Canada for his betrayal.
I disagree on trade being the reason. It's military and intelligence Starmer is thinking about imho. The UK is scarily weak without US military assistance. We can barely do anything without US support. Our 'independent' nuclear deterrent is a good example.
I am not sure what is being peddled on Canadian news channels, but i believe we know our PM much better than yourself. His values are far more aligned with EU & Canada than the US, but its its super important to keep Trump on side atm. You need to have more faith in Starmer.
If you are seriously pretending that Starmer directs or doesn’t direct the King of Canada to perform the rituals of changing government there’s not much to say
As our head of state obviously he is required to do the ceremonies on change of government. And- he’s not Starmer. It’s Starmer that refuses to say the words.
