Am pleased how the angle came out too! It's one of the reasons I like doing underwater scenes - it makes posing a lot easier, especially to show off the paws!
To find angles, I actually use 3DSMax. I build a *very* rough blocky model with approximate proportions in the pose I want, then move the camera about to find something interesting. Then use that as my reference. Easier than trying to do it all in my head!
That's actually a really interesting process! I wouldn't have expected 3d modeling to be involved! however, it makes sense and helps to visualize, that's actually really awesome.
