Thank goodness for that, I love playing call of Duty zombies even though am pretty rubbish at it. My eldest son keeps telling me to stream , gangsta granny lol I swear too much when playing
In fact, I would posit that similarly to wine or music, being an expert probably makes them *harder* to enjoy, if enjoyment is your only real goal in playing them
True. Open world games with great storytelling are still one of the most popular genre that can be played by anyone. I remember watching this Elderly woman on YouTube play Skyrim. Gaming is for everyone despite what most hardcore gamers say. Even my grandmother enjoys her candy crush 😂
Video games should be played for enjoyment. One doesn't have to master a particular game to enjoy it. Video games are made for fun and enjoyment if you wanna bust your ***. You can do it on other fields
100%, helps extend the fun of a game I’m really enjoying or make them it more replayable. I’ve just frustrated myself trying to make sure I got all missable trophies on the first play-through or taking them too seriously
I play a lot of games on 'Easy' mode, and I am really happy there are difficulty options for players like me. I quite enjoy simply taking in the scenery and following the story plots of games.
Thank you! I'm not very good with most games, so I always play offline or survival to avoid holding other people back. There's no shame in playing on easy for as long as you want or watching walkthroughs before you start!
I used to be a big time min-maxer when I was younger but now I just fumble through games, barely noticing the differences between this weapon or that weapon, using the same 3 abilities over and over because I just don't have time to "perfect" a game anymore and you know what? It's fine.
Amen brother. I might add there is nothing wrong with not finishing a game either as long as you found it entertaining then you got your money’ worth. Your mileage will very on how long that it is or look shiny new game…😂
A corollary:
Players who are not able to keep up with the intended skill level are prone to finding a less fun solution than the one intended and as a result may confuse designers by playing in unintended ways. Ensure you have plenty of low skill playtesters.
Imagine for example that there is a difficult boss in a non-enclosed area. If it's too hard to fight in melee (as intended) players may kite them away and chip damage them to death with low damage ranged attacks completely bypassing the intended challenge, never improving and becoming bored.
99% true. The other 1% is when you play multiplayer with teams (Rocket League, Starcraft) and you hurt your teammates’ enjoyment because you suck. Play the comps until you get good enough. Or only play comps.
my dad watched me play infamous second sun, i had so much trouble with a minigame, he laughed his ass off, when i said "if you think it's so easy, you try!" this was the last time i needed to do the mini game, turns out.... i was holding the controller wrong
Does a lot of long form breakdowns of entire series. He's got an 8 hour Resident Evil breakdown where he covers almost all the games. Good stuff if you're trying to throw something on throughout your day.
I like to consider myself pretty good at video games. But there have been some games I come across where I’m just like damn I suck but man oh man I am having fun 🤣
And being "good at them" is really only important to people that are good at them. And the ones who don't brag about it are a lot less insufferable about that.
Sometimes I’m like “man I’m so bad at video games I need to get better so I’m not an embarrassment to female gamers everywhere” and then I’m like “wait why do I care I only play single player games and who cares what a bunch of misogynistic dudes on the internet think of me”
I agree! I enjoy Mario Maker 2 and I'm not even that good at it. Feel free to watch me enjoying this game despite my skill level from 6:30 to 9:30 am Pacific time!
It's lookin prettty good. Something like 50 bosses for endgame, they really took their time and went all out, which is something I appreciate, especially seeing how other devs reacted to Larion taking their time and providing value for Baldur's Gate, lmao.
I always check to see if a game difficulty can be turned down mid-game, otherwise I'll default to much lower. Most of the time I'm in it for the story.
Children suck at video games, I have watched them fail at the simplest objectives because they're spending hours trying to balance a random trashcan at the side of the screen. And I have watched them thrilled to spend hours with that trashcan. Kids get it, have fun with the game, you owe it nothing.
I am a professional garbage player, but I enjoy the strategies you're forced to come up with being bad at games 😂 - although I am mediocre in some other ones too

As for multiplayer games, find your own fun. Play the auto shotgun, the character you like, whatever fun looks like to you.

i have to actively fight to not give up a game if i don't get it in like one or two days (i'm the worst lol)
But it’s obviously true in single player games.
If it’s multiplayer and you’re not playing ranked, the same applies.
The same logic applies to pickup basketball on the beach courts.
Dammit!

I love DS2 and 3, and I am still working my way through DS1
It’s a pastime I have done since 1988 to chill out, usually on my own.
What kind of thought says otherwise?
Looking right at you, Balatro. 🃏🪐😫
We decided it lands between people who like the act of doing the thing vs the measure of the ‘product’ they make
(score, time, achievement)
