i think people sometimes use prophecy in this sorta christian chauvinist way—a soothsayer future foreteller and, hopefully, a bringer of prosperity gospel.

and i think the way folks have sometimes discussed octavia butler's parable series is by christianizing the texts, by presuming that prophecy is mostly in search of an eventual savior, a messiah, the person that will tell us what to do and how to act.

a lot of us rang the alarm over and over again the last presidential election cycle. and we said over and over again that we cannot continue to wreak havoc as a nation "over there" and not expect that havoc to visit us "here."
