Is Warframe worth getting into now? I played it a tad years ago but last time I booted it up it looked like a micro-transaction nightmare. I’d rather play Darktide but all I have to play with are randos.

As I have become a Warframe content creator, focused mainly on story/lore videos, I have to say that 23/24 has been one of the best years for the story so far.

Easy to forget when always looking forward. But since Whispers we have gotten multiple, story-centric updates with the new Frames. 🗣🍖

I played for a couple thousand hours in about 8 months. Then I felt guilty about spending that much time playing a game when I had things I "needed" to be doing. I didn't do them, but I did quit for the past 4 1/2 years. I'm constantly tempted to return, but I feel like I've already missed too much.

I mean if you follow the main story quest you'll more and less end where the rest of community is at. I was in a similar boat to you up until a few months ago. Helped that I got a couple friends started on their journeys

By "missed too much", it's more all of the items and primes and other stuff I missed over the past 4 years. I tend to react to live service games where there's stuff for me to miss aquiring by giving them up entirely.

I see. Well outside of temporary vaulted relics, I dont think there are any major items that are lost to time outside of night wave cosmetic that do occasionally get re-runs. Most timed event stuff usually gets relegated to a factions vendor and can be bought with reputation. For what its worth.

Warframe is the funniest thing to me. I played until I maxed out the Paris bow you get early and never found a weapon I enjoyed using more than that. I then learned if you don't want a constant stream of new stuff there's not a lot of reason to keep playing

Bows are extremely good in the early game, but they fall off later on.

Keep playing to The New War and you'll get the best feeling bow in the game, Nataruk. (Dont look it up if you're spoiler averse)

You'll even be able to keep up with end game damage using Nataruk.

For me the biggest hurdle is getting back into it after a falloff. Every time I try I feel like I've missed so much stuff. It reminds me of getting back into monster hunter but at least with monster hunter it's just getting used to the controls again lol

The controls can be pretty complex. But they're also optional, and you can go solo for a few missions to get your feet wet.

Play some Exterminates on Mars. Start with walking/sprinting/sliding like a regular Third Person Shooter, and build from there 👍🏾

Man I hit a progression wall way before that because the grind doesn't feel that great, and they locked interesting story stuff behind mechanics I kinda hate. Also the frames I like aren't very viable and that makes me big sad. :c

I main Koumei now in endgame steel path, and people act like she's bottom tier. So there's a lot to be said for working towards a build/playstyle that matches the frame

I quit in March of 2020 because I had just built a PC for working on music and felt like doing anything else was a distraction. Plus they had recently put in Railjacks and stuff was starting to get locked behind things I just couldn't do solo. I just wanted to do story quests and get all the things.

Fortunately they did some tweaks on that - Railjack is now doable solo (you can hire NPC crewmates) and doesn't gate anything meaningful outside of "owning one to do New War", Necramech grind was significantly reduced, the only stuff that takes extra effort to do solo is end-game high level content.

For the record, you helped to convince me and I'm back in. I've probably put in around 30 or 40 hours in the past 5 days. Though I did have to spend about 2 or 3 hours making a spreadsheet first.

Railjack is definitely more doable with the bot crew, though I can imagine they quickly get outmatched.

They are solid enough as turret crew/engineers across the board, but you definitely want a competent human player for piloting/front artillery and as a backup engineer (hull breach) and boarding action repel in higher level content, enemy levels scale quite high there.

Fortunately New War access got streamlined to not require grinding the highest tier of Railjack for a prelude quest and the only meaningful stuff still tied to the whole mode is a couple of weapons/mods and Sevagoth - his Prime parts are in current relic drop tables, happy farming.

I tried it a bit with two crew and left the piloting and gunning to them while I ran around and did some of everything. But for the missions that require you to go inside a base, the pilot would end up getting murdered by boarders, despite the fact that I cleared out every ship before I left.

I definitely don't care about end-game stuff. I just like collecting all the frames and weapons and doing all the quests.

I just wish they would get rid of Mastery Rank tests after like MR 20. I think I quit when I had to do the MR 26.

It's true though. The farms for railjack and necramech are much smoother. And if you join a clan that already has it built, you can do railjack missions without completing your own.

My clan was literally just me doing everything by myself but I think I still had the railjack built before I quit in March 2020. I guess that's what putting in 8 or 10 hours a day playing Warframe will get you. Other than the feeling that you're wasting all your time.

At least in 1999, they're removing the penalty for failure. You can try as much as you like; you only get a cooldown on success.

And even then, since Rebb took over the ship its pretty much only been improvements so instead of 2 years breaks its more like 3 month breaks like youd treat something like FF14. Also helps that stuff comes out soon after its announcement/when its promised.

You can now earn everything but Slots and certain cosmetics in game solo for free at a good clip.

You can get Potatos free from the Nightwave (the free battle pass) now.

You can get a free slot for weapons/warframes with each Nightwave season. They also gift them to all players in charity events like Quest to Conquer Cancer.

Worst case scenario you can trade Prime Parts and rare/unique mods to other players for Platinum and scrounge up for slots that way.
