People seem to not actually realize Dragon Age has always trounced Mass Effect in terms of sales. Every single time. So if Dragon Age tanked, what hope does ME have?

I definitely wouldn't guess that. Mass Effect 2 and 3 got WAY more media attention than subsequent DA games ever did and definitely get talked about more after the fact too (And not just about the ME3 endings.)

it always felt like DA does well, but ME was the flagship franchise starting with 2.

yeah they were military-themed sci fi shooters so they were defacto treated as more legitimate, even though they always sold worst and what people consider 'the bioware audience' were always more down with DA

With how badly they advertised DA from the start, I'm left just thinking EA pushed Mass Effect harder as the face of the studio because it's the one with guns and their marketing division only knows how to advertise guns and sports.

Same. Mass Effect always felt like something with higher, npi, mass appeal to me. Plus it practically had no competition in high-budget sci-fi rpg segment - everyone else just naturally pivoted to fantasy

My hope lies in Exodus from Archetype Entertainment. There are Bioware vets there, and that game is very much in the same vein as Mass Effect. Maybe these displaced devs can join their team.

Hopefully whoever holds the rights to Mass Effect at the end of all this will consider doing something different with the franchise (within the Milky Way.)

Maybe not an RPG where you are forced to play as human?
Maybe not an Andromeda that removes itself entirely from the sci-fi setting I love?
