I saw someone saying "every character you ever read about, saw, or heard about started as someone's OC!" - and if that didn't bring home to me that we really are happy using "OC" to mean "characters made by amateurs/peasants"...

I have such a bitter hate for the spread of "OC" to indicate people's characters outside of fanfiction - It's as if everything "amateur" defaults to fanart/fanfiction, everything around you is owned, unmarked characters are for "official" media by "real" creators, not you...

OC = Character I own and them there are just characters I wrote for work or don't own all the rights to made it with someone else lt whatever.
