For a lot of people, owning a business is not about wealth really, it’s about “not having a boss” and being able to bully everyone else. Lots of business owners could not hold down a job because they’re horrible people who do not take direction well, no one wants to work is pure projection.

It's a fucking nightmare. The amount that people just outside the family owners have to do, without the knowledge of the owners, just to keep the place running is sad.

but it turns out i also hate being a boss, with the exception of a very few rare folks (who worked with us for many years before moving on to bigger things, and we all cried)
These people DO like rules--in fact, they require rules to protect their wealth through enforcement of private property rights & contracts.
They only object to rules that constrain them in any way. See Ch 2:

I talked to many people diagnosed with COVID in that situation.
Most infuriating? Nursing home workers.
Doubly so cuz my late mom was a nurse, worked in nursing homes 19 years.
I'd give those cases a # to report their employer, I wasn't able to.
I don't think he wanted to start wars or gas people, but Being Boss was his whole identity.
"I will tell you when it is ready, stop asking!" would be completely unacceptable for me to tell my boss or for a franchise to tell me, but it's something these small biz guys take as a divine right.
I learned because the shop that rebuilt the Bug I bought from my dad for $1 when I was 18, when it was running on 3 cylinders, really, really ripped me off, I discovered later.
It turned out that it was a thing they did to women in general, assuming we wouldn't tinker on our old VWs like so many of the men did.
So I could work on it in his parking lot with his tools & his guidance if I needed it.
