The zionists formed a self defense organization, Haganah in 1920 after the Nebi Musa riots.

Decades of arab riots and terrorism allowed the jews to build a superior organization. When the palestinians launched their war to anihilate the Jews in 1947 they were defeated. Haganah became the IDF.
