But having said that.. At least those things had some.. I don't know. Substance. Or am I simply imagining that? Ok sure - They were meant to make us consume something, but there was some sort of story, it wasn't just weird bite-sized meta-level content with little to no narrative.. /2

Again, might just what I wanted to call "Old-man effect" when thinking about current culture. At least if we're talking brainrot I think it is certainly not a controversial take anymore to say that early internet access is harmful to a developing mind. I can't find a more logical conclusion /3

Shortened attention span, increased incidence of ADHD, information overload leading to behavior indicating smartphone addiction, "doomscrolling", disturbed sleeping patterns, earlier and earlier examples of increasing depression and self-harm. Internet bullying. /4

Oh yeah I definitely won't disagree that our relationship with technology is a major issue right now. I personally think that social media (although CAN be good if done well) and short form videos are softening our ability to focus and be creative.

But for me (as a parent of a 13 and 6 year old) I really try to be open minded about what my kids think is funny or cool. There are definitely times it's difficult for to fully understand why they like something, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have value.
