Absolutely keep your kindle. and purchased books and reread them often. It gives Amazon no more money to do so. Buy elsewhere in future and convert them to mobi for.yoour kindle using calibre or similar. Kobo, Smashwords, author direct and Lulu are all possibilities.

Kindle accepts other file types than mobi (i think mobi is the one that gives me trouble lol) so that isn’t necessary, which is helpful! It takes epub & pdf & others!

Good information. I don’t like Audible. I bought the kindle for my son who cannot physically handle books. It has a great page turning function button. He didn’t use it. Now I can try it with these libraries

Check out Libby or Hoopla! Your library may have access to one or both, and they’re great ebook platforms! They have graphic novels audiobooks, everything! It’s super easy to use too!

I completely agree with this as someone who’s moving away from Amazon I couldn’t imagine shaming people who still have theirs products. Amazon has been designed in a way that makes you kind of dependant on it and like you said not everyone has the means or disposable income to jump ship and move

Yes, but the point I wanted to make is that everyone can’t use those other options for many reasons. Everyone doesn’t have an indie bookstore, a nearby library branch, etc. Making them feel like they’re terrible for still using Amazon/other big companies isn’t a good way to get a point across.

I followed a starter pack of queer authors and bought some pdfs on their itch. Depends on the author but some were minimums of $2. Yes, if I was shipping paper books it would be a bigger investment but if you're willing to be flexible they could use your direct support.

I switched to a Boox which was about the same as a year and a half of paying for Kindle Unlimited. And I can have the Kindle app on there and access all my Kindle books and more. It was surprisingly easy to make the switch.

I don’t think there’s a way to use a pc or Mac to send wired to kindle anymore. That was the big controversy everyone was upset about - it’s WiFi only to transfer files now. You could keep the account and just use it for nothing but kindle. That’s what mine is. I also read a lot via Libby & hoopla

I can connect my Kindle to my MacBook and it shows up as a drive in Finder.

I installed Calibre and my Kindle and its downloaded books show up in that, and I successfully converted and transferred its user guide to my Kindle.

I’m not going to engage in piracy - as a creative person, I believe authors should be paid for their work.

I’ll use it for DRM-free works such as those in the public domain and where authors provide such versions.

I mean also I do the vast majority of my reading on my kindle from the library or from arcs. A kindle doesn't necessarily equate buying books on amazon. (Kindles can also be bought used.)

Yes!! My parents live in rural Louisiana. Their grocery choices are the farmers market in the summer (if it’s not too hot), Walmart that’s 30 mins away one way, or Target and Kroger that are also 30 mins away the opposite direction. For those can divest we should but others can’t and that’s ok
