I do hate how the weight of feminism tends to be put on women artists. It creates an unfair pressure of perfection that will always disappoint someone and really lead to intense stress on the artist. Especially sucks as it tends to be from the people who feign support at first. - ThreadSky

There’s also how this dichotomy leads to weird engagement with their art that relies on an odd psychoanalysis that is not usually applied to men. Hence why a lot of women artists want to be regarded as artists first instead of part of a special category

Which then leads into the issue of women written or created by men like Joss Whedon or James Cameron being held to a higher standard, which then puts them on the alt-right nostalgia grift as more women write or create, which then makes it hard for female characters pretty much in general.

Esp annoys me when they do it with Ripley bc they always go to “well she wasn’t emotional” and “she didn’t let her gender drag her down”. Well, first she wasn’t written as a woman which changes things and also if you pay attention the point of Aliens is she has to learn to let ppl in

Same thing with Sarah Connor in T2. It is actually presented as *bad* to be stoic and something she needs to learn from but these types just focus on how “badass” someone looks and that definition of “badass” is very based on overtly masculine traits.

Which then leads to this pig's breakfast of incentives like what's happening with Disney where an improvement by the standards of movies like Wish or The Rise of Skywalker or Captain Marvel* or the remakes becomes the bare minimum requirement by contemporary filmmaking and storytelling standards.
