Matt Berry has the ability to add incredible life to the most mundane lines. Just think about what's on the page and compare it with his delivery, it's terrific

what really strikes me about Berry is that he puts so much mustard on his lines it should be obnoxious & off-putting. but, like Maya Rudolph, he can *sell* an incredibly broad performance, just absolutely push it over the top on sheer charisma.
Or to flip it around - take any Laszlo line from What We Do In The Shadows and just naively transcribe it to dead text, and you'll find you've got nothing. Absolutely nothing
I was once given a role because the director looked at the scriptwriter's work, and decided I was the only one who could make the lines funny.
Best review I've ever been given.
Your post states the writing is mundane and he is rescuing them. The writers know exactly who they are writing for. He's not "elevating" the lines, he saying them exactly like the writers imagined he would. Show some respect.
Until a few weeks ago he voiced the links on Absolute Radio in the UK and had done for years. The replacement is doing a poor impersonation and there’s no comparison even though the copy is effectively the same. It’s astonishing
