I really want to know what due diligence has been done to justify this enormous investment, at a time when basic services are collapsing. What are the specific detailed use cases? Because right now you could just swap "AI" for "unicorn magic" in Starmer's statements and they'd make as much sense.

I work in IT and the company is constantly trying to get us to take up the latest AI tools to ‘help’ ‘streamline’ my work.
This seems to be one of those sudden universal truths that come into being. All I can see at the moment is my work being captured to train AI
I also think that the products ‘not working’ is part of the design. It learns for them to ‘improve’ it and roll out new changes.
