does it count if revenge means making sure to have a CV outside of doing a PhD so I will never be workless owing to building up practical skills instead of falling to publish-or-perish?

for my next trick I shall obtain a bus licence.

I mean I *am* a fan of letting people carry on as they were, but with other people aware they need to keep an eye on things. It's meant an innocent person wasn't wrongly punished and the arrogance of the actual perpetrators after they "got away with it" was their undoing.

More than once, I have stayed someone's hand with "Don't. Think for a moment. Without your help to keep them from their worst impulses, what do you think's gonna happen? You can't do worse to them than they'll do to themselves."

It is sad how many times I've been proved very quickly proved right.
