if you look at people in positions of power, you might think humanity is inherently evil, but if you look at the far larger group of people without power, you can see that there is an almost boundless well of good people helping each other

The claim that humanity is inherently evil is a justification for the claim that humanity has an inherent need to be punished and dominated and controlled within a strictly hierarchical system.
