If you hate your health insurance company, try Kaiser Permanente. They are the closest model to what National Health Care might look like and have the lowest denial rate by far. If they're not available through your employer check the ACA.
Our children are being corporatized to death. There is no money for corporations to keep kids alive. The money is in the prenatal healthcare then babies don’t have money to give to corporations
The most recent data I could find states that healthcare costs account for about 20% of the median household's income (the lower the income, the higher the percentage - topping out at around 34%). It's massively regressive and it's reasonable to expect that it's about to get worse.
Also means doctors and hospitals charge way too much for everything, all very scammy. When you get a bill from the hospital for 1 amount, then ask for a break down of costs and amount magically goes down ... they are scamming ppl. They are the root of why its all so expensive & unmanageable.
AmBetter, or as my doctors call them, AmWorst, denied an MRI he ordered. They said it wasn't necessary. He's a cardiologist. He ordered the imaging to check the 2 stints that were implanted 9 months earlier when I had a heart attack.
So yeah, they're killing people over their greed.
WP decided to acknowledge the problem like it’s a new thing. The oligarchs recognize they can avoid any remedy by saying, “You’re right; we didn’t know,” then do nothing.
They want us to mourn the robber baron who systematically denied us prescribed care to enrich himself and his buddies.
NO.
The deliberate and systematic practice of harming, endangering, and ultimately killing people. What is the appropriate response to being attacked constantly in this manner?
Doctor's are right, and we _should_ be tracking this. And it's wasteful AF particularly for prescription drugs (which are also getting dumped into "pre-auth required" status): MDs will rush a back-up Rx to patients, only to have pts fill the original Rx (now an overlap Rx) upon pre-auth. Dumb AF.
Except they have actual data.
Health care economists are experts in the cost effectiveness of care, which is why every single system employs them.
They know the number of QALYs or evLYGs gained. They know ICERs between two treatments and between treatment and doing nothing.
That is their business.
Doctor - You need this treatment/procedure
Specialist - You need this treatment/procedure
HealthCare bean-counter with no medical knowledge - has your doctor ordered this completely irrelevant treatment that could subject them to risk of a malpractice claim first? Then, no.
Thanks for the super-informed comment, but you missed the point.
The insurance company usually requires the medical provider to order a completely irrelevant treatment before approving the appropriate treatment. It's another way of passing accountability. It puts providers and patients at risk.
Reading seems hard for you. Nothing I wrote was remotely pro-corporate. They will blame anyone but themselves for a denial.
If you're going to leave shitty comments you should make sure you understand the entire post. Otherwise, such as in this case, you look like both an idiot and an asshole.
Over a $1.3 trillion business too, enough money to buy an entire government every single cycle. Nothing will ever change unless there is direct pressure on them and politicians to do so. And hard.
Health insurance is an organ of profit not some namby-pamby do gooder agency. Get the vibe. By the way Kamala was the name you couldn't endorse. You'll be fine with Trump.
Unlike us.
🇺🇸 The US in Fall
The global Left at the time of the Washington Consensus knew that the neoliberal model of privatization would be this in the future. The future has arrived and millions of US residents die without having a single hospital to save their lives. What the hell kind of country is this?
It takes 6 months + to get authorization if you ever do.. may as well move to a healthcare for all system like all other countries! America is not the greatest country ever in which I was made to believe my whole life.
Can you explain the investor pitch Brian Thompson was on his way to give to “investors”? How do insurance companies use monies that investors give them to pay returns to those investors?
With the political situation growing more volatile worldwide, it's obvious that psychotronic technologies are being used by those advancing global anticultism. Watch the documentary "The Impact" for more information
Had a child with multiple health issues, putting me in the guts of the US healthcare at 22 and in the following decades, a system that was bad in the 80s, has continued to get worse. Denial the first go around is all but expected. This has been a tactic for a long time.
Health should not be a business. The USA requires citizens' insurance that everyone must pay into. If you want more performance or service, you can take out additional insurance.
Autism, Alzheimer's, "mental illness" can b treated safely w turbinate surgery sinceJan'01. Changes blood flow. I found error. MDs damage w meds. MDs/DC dont like my story so wont fix. Torture by MD/exBF at elite US hosp'99. Don't expect MDs2take high road. But insurers should divest from Bigpharma
Myself and many loved ones have had very serious, very scary health issues over the years. As a Canadian never once has the thought of, “are they going to pay for this”, crossed my mind as we access world class healthcare. I weep for our American friends that suffer this indignity and stress.
No, based on facts, anecdotal and empoirical evidence. But of course you russian propaganda farms are in full swings. This is the thing with you pathetic bunch, the people will always win in the end.
My wife is swamped with pre-authorizations. I'm just flat out denied stuff I need. Once my doctor prescribed me a special X-ray that has been in use for years but not for my ailment so they denied it even though my doctor thought it would help and I couldn't pay out of pocket so I didn't get it.
Funny how the "legacy press" suddenly discover this even though folks have been talking about it for years and years now. Healthcare has been broken in this country for decades but WP thinks it happened in the past several months.
I don't think that is business, it's a criminal organization, more like mafia. Just because you wear fancy suits and hide behind corporation does not make your business not criminal.
Oh come off it. There's no need for big data on this, everyone has insurance, everyone knows what the problem is. Nobody likes insurance to start with because you aren't actually paying for anything for sure. So how about we start there?
I've said for years that insurance and healthcare is changing. Eventually we won't have coverage for mundane things like colds, flu and sprains. The human genome will determine our risk for disease and there will be riders limiting care for those ailments or a risk premium will be required.
Please note that articles like this didn’t appear in the mainstream media until after the assassination of the CEO of a major insurance company. Is this what we have to do force the media to focus on this issue? Start killing corporate executives?
how did we function when insurance companies didn't even exist? why are we not questioning their very existence? who says it has to be this way? before they all hide their identities, take a google earth ride around their mansions. this is where your money goes.
The Washington Post , owned by Bezos, the gutless , knee bending Trump loyalist, is hurting for readers and will send you to their sight begging you to subscribe. Ignore the Washington post
I donno man, I kinda feel like the guy whose job it is to make sure I don't wake up in the middle of someone cutting my chest open should be paid pretty well
I agree. I had a team of 4 anesthesiologist on me when I had open heart surgery. The surgery went 4 hours over because of additional problems. It would have cost me $4000 out of pocket and I have a silver-plated heath insurance policy.

America’s second Gilded Age, which began under Reagan, is reaching its peak as the billionaires take total power.
This aint about medicine, this is 99% vs 1%.
So yeah, they're killing people over their greed.

FAFO.
Why else would they* scrub their glossy websites.
Specialist - You need this treatment/procedure
HealthCare bean-counter with no medical training - uhh no.

HealthCare companies deny my benefits - but I don't get a refund
I don't care who they employ - the for profit system needs to be demolished.
Doctor - You need this treatment/procedure
Specialist - You need this treatment/procedure

When the insurer's policy is deny all 1st claims, it isn't about healthcare, it's about shareholder value.

Doctor AND Specialist agree on treatment.
But please, keep being a corporate shill.

And, the meeting went on after Thompson was shot at 7 am. How cold is that?
Here is map of Palestine from 1946.
Contrary to worldwide ignorance, the United States of America cannot continue to fund genocides with its tax revenue taken from its citizens.
Jesus of Nazareth was born in Palestine. Jesus is Palestinian.

You should not be so afraid of other people, some are just like you wanting to live in peace (so maybe not so much like you, actually)
I commented on the article as the headline seemed funny. Im here to interact with people and hear different opinions
Not condoning any violence BUT calling out Healthcare and CEOs who are ruthless profit driven.
This is good according to Musk
Fafo.
A call to arms has sounded and it may be a spark now but this fire will not go anywhere, their greed promises to stoke it until it consumes them.
Last year she went for a month without it.
This year the fight has just started. Hopefully it doesn’t take as long to resolve.

I'm sure it's not connected but Aetna and Blue Cross decided to charge you extra if your surgery went longer than expected ---- Friday morning
Friday night: project cancelled.
Vox, which you will probably deride as "right wing", covered this:

the average salary is over $450,000 per year in the US.
I'm sure someone can make use of this:
Because a lot of them have been talked about for 10yrs or more.
Healthcare is not a for-profit industry, it’s a human right!
