The conservative Christian Democrats appeared to be heading toward victory in Germany’s parliamentary election Sunday, early exit polls showed, while the far right was making historic gains, 80 years after the defeat of fascism.

First, on the picture you published a jubilant fascist. Wow 🤮 Second, studying the numbers, the AfD didn't make historic gains. Those were made 2021. Third, 84% voter turn-out is the highest since 80 years. It emphasises the Germans' understanding of their historical responsibility. My pleasure.
Why are they saying on ABC News that Trump is congratulate the conservatives for a decisive victory? I mean I know ABC News isn’t actually newsworthy but it’s so far from the truth isn’t it?
They made gains but didn't get more than 20 % of the vote. So 80% of Germans did NOT vote for a far right party, with a turnout of 84%.
Imagine if the GOP only got 20% of the vote.
'conservative Christian Democrats are centrists, and are more like Obama than American Conservatives who are fascist.
Either WaPo copy and pasted from DW, or they do not understand German politics - kinda like our dumpster fire president who congratulated in all caps the 'conservative' win
Honestly, why do you show the leader of a party who did not win the election?
I think it would be fair to emphasise that Germany has had a historic turnout and still voted 80% not fascist far-right.
Poor journalism
The image shows the leaders of the Nazi party AfD, not the actual winners, the CDU. The CDU will not form a coalition with the AfD. We expect a center-right government with the CDU and SPD.
Can you please just start to call the AfD for what they are: fascists? I think it is necessary to say it clear. Also, as per the approval of German courts one may call them "fascists" or even "nazis". And they are being watched by our constitution protection services as well. Should suffice.
The thing is, their editing seems to become more 'sloppy' every day. And unfortunately it's always in favor of Trump and his minions. I've had a digital subscription for years. Not anymore.
Personal perspective, I guess. I see plenty of reporting that’s very critical of Trump/Musk, and often excellent work in different areas (not just politics).
That said, it’s becoming obvious that Bezos has lost interest in his WaPo project and staff is working under difficult conditions.
Such idiots! Really! Calling themselves journalists and aren’t even able to post the correct image? Ridiculous! Are they also being effed my Muskollini?
You’re failing badly and are an embarrassment for journalism! Let me help you out! These are the winners, the CDU (Christian Democratic Union). Their candidate for the Chancellor is Friedrich Merz. My invoice to you is on the way!
Q: Not familiar w/German politics. If they are Conservative Christian Democratic party, would that be like normal Republicanis here? As an American I see "Christian Conservative" & think Ronald Reagan Rep party. Or if they are the left, are they like center left in comparison to the US?
What the eff is wrong with you, Washington Post? Bad enough that you’re Bezo‘s bitch given your history with Watergate. How come you’re obviously not even capable to post a picture of the real winners instead of the leader of a modern nazi Party??
The US needs to have more than two political parties. Republicans are now backing a fascist party that doesn't stand for what we're once Republican values. The whole system needs an overhaul.
AfD were forecast by the press to do far better in this their best ever opportunity. Even the centre left parties jointly did better than them by 6%. German voters rejected them decisively.
The headline here is Musk and Trump lost. They wanted the far right AfD party to win. Conservatives won in Germany but, unlike in the USA, the modern Nazi party lost.
Despite fascist Musk and Trump/ Putin troll Vance 80% of the Germans rejected fascism. How about you, USA? When are you going to the White house and chant “Nazi’s raus”?
1/This notion is too simple. If education were to be held accountable, the solution would be easy. The problem is multifaceted.

2/ ...job insecurity throughout rural areas. To my knowledge, a third aspect is how former East and Western Germany have dealt with processing Germany's fascist past. Because the former GDR was part of the UDSSR, the notion was that there couldn't be any Nazis, as they, according to propaganda,...
Yes, a lot of them haven’t got any proper education, they left schools, because they are used to live from public money for generations, doesn’t matter if they are Germans or foreigners.
The CDU/CSU have the majority of votes and most likely they will form a coalition with the SPD to form a government with Merz becoming the next German Chancellor.
The right wing had a win this evening, but they won't be part of the government. I don't like Friedrich Merz, but one of his main goals now is the support of the Ukraine against Putin and he just said he lost his optimism when it comes to the USA and common forgein policies of the USA and europe.
J.D. Vance just stood on the world stage and told Germany to embrace the far-right. Trump is reshaping American foreign policy in real time. This article breaks down how the U.S. is abandoning its democratic commitments & what that means for the world.
To put things in perspective, the Christian Democratic Party is more of a historical name. Their politics are not very religious. They have nothing in common with Evangelicals in the US. By US standards, they would be considered as left-liberal.

80% of Germans said no and voted for non fascist parties.
The ADF will get nowhere near power with that result.
But they will try and spin their failure as some great political shift. It's not
Meaningless.
The other parties won't deal with them. They are just the opposition. No power.
This was their best chance to take power and they failed.
They made gains in the East, the poorest part of Germany. To win in Germany you need to win the west.
Imagine if the GOP only got 20% of the vote.
maybe the asteroid is a reset

But this is sloppy editing that should be immediately corrected.
