For many D.C.-area owners, the car has gone from progressive icon to badge of shame. As a small act of protest, a Tesla Model S owner purchased a bumper sticker that reads, “I bought this before I knew he was crazy.”

I give sadan owners a pass cuz they could have bought it before it became clear Musk was the anticrist, but every butt-ugly cybertruck gets shamed and if its dirty... something written in its grime.
"Sure Tesla has had labor, air, and water violations for years and Musk was threatening employees attempting to unionize in 2019 but everyone does that"
So weird for a car to be a "progressive icon" (know 3 folks that was definitely true for, and weird then too).
I asked my husband to sell our Tesla last October. We’re in Australia 🇦🇺 Aussies bitched about them before Musk completely lost it as it’s not a go walkabout 4x4. Our market is being flooded with Chinese electric cars and we’ve lost heaps on what we paid for it 3 years ago. Sell now or wait? 🤷♀️
That’s a tough call. I tend to agree that sooner might be better, people might lose their passion over time, but some (I) certainly won’t. Have friends in your situation and they feel stuck as well.
But selling your used Tesla does nothing to Musk. Do you realize that? You already gave your money, you cant take it back. Selling used car does nothing at all.
I was 3 or 4 months away from buying a Tesla and then I saw Musk jumping around at one of Trump's rallies like a lunatic ... that was the end of that plan
My partner is having buyer's remorse. Went from thinking she was doing the "right thing" to knowing who she was supporting. But to anyone vandalizing Teslas or equating an owner with Musk? Screw you. It's not that cut and try. And remember Revolutionaries. You were loving him a couple of years ago.
He was wacky way before you bought your Tesla. You turned your head away and bought it. Sucker. Take your now worthless car to the junkyard for disposal.
If you or someone you know would like to donate a Tesla to a 501c3 refugee charity for a tax deduction, visit https://www.donateyourtesla.org or https://www.ridesforrefugees.org. Platinum Guidestar rated org. They provide vehicles to low-income, permanent-resident refugees in the U.S. so they can get to work.
I won't automatically key a Tesla sedan, but a Cybertruck summarily gets the rope. Or the airlock. Or some dogshit I dunno I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Don’t act like you didn’t know. We have know he is a racist antisemite POS for years. You bought the car. You lined his pockets. You support him. And now you feel bad. Well now I don’t care. Have fun driving your Nazimobile
Exactly! All those stickers like “I bought this before we knew he was crazy”… he’s always been “crazy” (aka. a massive POS), people just couldn’t be bothered to pay attention
Tesla has been very popular in California for a decade due to progressives buying them. Even though Musk was always a bit questionable, execs tend to be that way and until the past few years, Tesla was THE company making EVs. Musk wasn't the main consideration - reducing our carbon footprint was.
Yep 🙋♀️ Bought one over 3 years ago. The market in Australia 🇦🇺 has been flooded with Chinese EV cars over the past 12 months. We could probably remove the Tesla badge and replace it with BYD and no one would be the wiser
They fucking should. Also, if you think you bought one “before he was crazy” it better be more than 8 years old. The Thailand cave rescue was the last straw.
Definitely right and definitely insane to throw that lying hissy fit because he didn’t get his way. Why we’re here is a catastrophic lack of judgment about him IMO.
Musk is not filthy rich because the cars are filthy profitable, but because he owns stock that other people value highly. If you want to go after his wealth, go after Tesla stock valuation, of which Vanguard is a leading holder
Absolutely right . I sold my TSLA stock at beg of Nov 24’. The only way you can get under his skin is by lowering his assets. By lowering his stock value. Selling used cars does nothing at all. You will only take a big loss, and someone else will make a gain.
In a sane market, they ought to be. But Tesla is more of a meme stock, trading on speculation of future appreciation rather than fundamentals; it doesn't give a dividend, it sells fewer cars than major automakers, and each has lower margins than luxury lines. Owning a Tesla is now a political statement. If people choose to drive them, they shouldn't be surprised nor upset when others shun them or serve up hate their way.
Buying one would be a statement. Owning one is not. A close friend bought one around 2017 for those times when a bike isn't enough, specifically because of the environmental benefits. And if you say he should sell it, would you shun the buyer?
What might actually work is a campaign where people buy non-Tesla EVs and send photos of themselves with their new cars to Tesla. Make it very clear to the board that Musk's behavior is toxic to the company.

chill.
you still need to chill out.
What are you upset about, Violet?
So weird for a car to be a "progressive icon" (know 3 folks that was definitely true for, and weird then too).
Shrug. Y'all should probably sell.
The rest of us are crying!
F Trump!
F U if you support them!

Get uncomfortable and outside of your comfort zone. It SHOULD be difficult.
They made complacency easy.
