The single worst decision, appointment, and managerial downgrade made by any club I can think of. Disastrous.

For me, sacking Puel after finishing 8th in the Prem and reaching the League Cup final because of the style of play was a worse decision. The play under Puel was a great deal easier on the eye than the disaster of this season!

This is an excellent point. I thought sacking Puel was an error at the time too. To achieve that, especially given the players he lost, was quite remarkable. Puel -> Pellegrino is very much as bad a Ralph -> Jones, we could quite easily have gone down that year too

The nonsense about the Puel sacking was that he was hired specifically to transition the club to a less physically demanding style of play. His task was to cope with the demands of a European competition without sacrificing too much in the league or cups.

Agreed the Puel sacking was badly done, but he also screwed up Europe - he benched better players and we got pointlessly knocked out. For a club like hours, we should have gone for it when relegation wasn’t a big threat (like West Ham did).

The Prague away game was a disappointment, but we absolutely battered Hapoel in the final game and were unlucky to go out. At the end of the day we had a strike force of Austin or Long 🤷🏻‍♂️ He did the best with what he had

Players didnt like him and two 9-0s and six defeats in a row. He should of been sackled long before he did and the replacements wouldnt have been so bad im sure. Might even still be in the PL
