It is expensive if you live in London and/or eat a lot of meat. Otherwise it's pretty much average for a European country. Some things are spendy, some things are cheap.
expensive is also context based. i make $155k aud before tax. i don’t think it’s going to be anywhere near the issue a lot of people are thinking it is.
That’s unhelpful regardless of the where to be honest. It’s expensive a lot of places, doesn’t mean it’s impossible to live there. The right place will pop up for you in due time 😉
London is expensive but places not within the commuter belt are quite resonable.
Plus side....no one has guns or feels the need to carry them around with them.
No MAGA hats and no swastika flags and the people are polite.
The UK is great but everyone outside of the country thinks that UK (especially England) = London.
London sits in its own (expensive) bubble. It’s great but does not reflect the rest of the country. The North, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are cheaper and very different (and friendlier)
Truth. Looking at the media it’s like places like the Midlands, Yorkshire, Scotland as an entire country in its own right, don’t even exist. It’s all London London London. Makes me resent the south.
I’m from Essex originally, then made my way up to Manchester over the years. Manchester has its own culture and vibe.
I worked (and stayed down) in London for about 8 months and I had the best of both worlds. I could enjoy everything that London had to offer in the week then escape for the weekend.
Hi Luna, check numbeo for daily costs etc. if you work remote you can be a digital nomad across half of Europe. I’ve lived in NYC & London and it’s expensive but you’ll have a great time. Who knows where your adventures will take you from here. Nothings forever, right ☺️
i see. well this is your glorious adventure, so let your heart be your guide. you can always rent a place for a year to see how the area suits you. and then decide to settle in more permanently or seek your dreams elsewhere. you have many, many choices. and you can always change your path. 👍

But as a newbie developer on a newbie salary I was able to live on the outskirts of London.
So it's not as scary as people say, and since you work remote you save a lot on train commute costs.
