the biggest problem we have is even if the outlet is rated for 120v 15a or 20a the shitty extension cord is NOT and there's apparently no laws that require proper fuses in them so people who don't know better start fires easily

The issue is people are plugging these things in to $5 power strips that aren't rated for the amps being pushed through.

The fuse will pop, but the power strip will also sometimes catch on fire. It's not the infrastructure, it's the sales of cheap garbage.

I think it’s more of a dummy issue than anything else. Last winter (where I live), when the power was out there were people who died from carbon monoxide poisoning because they had a diesel generator running INSIDE THEIR HOUSE as opposed to outside with extension cables running into the building
