OK...a quick cursory search reveals that currently there is NO WAY to disable Copilot in Word, a service I pay for? Even for professional writers who have spent countless hours toiling away at their craft and want nothing to do with it?

I’m on a Mac, and per info from Microsoft I unchecked the first box, so I can’t *use* Copilot, but the little symbol still follows me everywhere on my doc, and it still opens all my new docs with a line about Copilot. (Needless to say, I hate it.) Were you able to get rid of that, too?
Yes, you're right, I did go back in and I found the Privacy settings. But even unchecking those options didn't do the trick—I still get Copilot when I open a new file (even after quitting out of Word and then relaunching). So who knows...but thank you for your help!
I can help. There is a GitHub Powershell script for de-gunking Windows 10 and 11. It is amazing the work that has to be done to get this shit out of your way.
I've fished around the Internet and (as of now), there's all kinds of false information about how to get rid of it/disable it, even within a single file. The short answer seems to be...you can't.
Following this closely because I am having the exact same problem as of this weekend. The process described online for how to disable it doesn't seem to work w/ whatever version of Word/OS I am using. And seeing it every time I open a new file makes me want to never write anything again.
Let's not even get into how, as of a few years ago, the Word software we ALREADY BOUGHT is now a service that charges a monthly fee to use all the features. Rent-seeking much?
You're right - now way are they getting their AI hands on stuff I write. I Managed to turn off copilot in MSWord yesterday. It's under "Options", which are now hidden behind a "More" button under the File tab:
hope this helps

Open Word, select the app menu, and then go to Preferences > Authoring and Proofing Tools > Copilot.
Clear the Enable Copilot checkbox.
Close and restart the app.
