The thing about cats is that they are brilliantly adaptable. If you keep Oreo inside, he'll figure out how to make that work for him. With a little assistance from you. πββ¬

We are actually moving in a few months. Iβm going to keep him indoors for several months after that. Hoping it will be a new start for him! He loves being outside, but heβs very territorial, and the fighting is learned behaviorπ
Long ago when I was young and spry we fostered cats (and dogs). Mostly they were ill or badly injured. For the most part domestic cats don't fight to the death - or even to the point of serious injury. They establish dominance and back off. Cats who don't learn to back off - for what ever reason -
are dangerous to other cats and more importantly in Oreo's case they're dangerous to themselves. I've cared for cats that lost limbs, eyes, ears, tails and even part of their jaw to fighting.
Maybe you can work on teaching Oreo to walk on a leash? Or if you're able, you can build him a catio.
Right now Oreo is a top cat. But there will be a day he meets a younger stronger cat and his inability to back down with play against him. Sometimes we need to protect our pets from themselves. πββ¬ποΈ
This is the formally feral Capt. Chaos. Fifteen years ago he came to us in really sad shape. Still doesn't care for strangers - of any sort - but he's civil. He's mostly retired from the Chaos Dept. - but keeps a paw in. Happy #Caturday πββ¬ποΈ
