For some women, MMR vaccine rejection also has an element of fear: a mother’s deep dread of causing their little baby harm. Rationalizations (those T-shirts) can grow from that emotional soil, planted there by crackpots and unscrupulous narcissists.

I get that. There was a recognizable difference between the vaccine hesitant mothers I engaged with at my science center, and the militant antivaxxers.

However, believing that you know better than an MD with years of experience is ego, and so many refusers being influenced by TV celebs is fashion.
