Democracy and wealth inequality are obviously in tension.

At some point wealth inequality becomes such a powerful force for shaping public policy that it sees eliminating democracy as a threat as the natural next step.

Dem. socialism has been attempted frequently in the developing world and the United States does election interference, political disinformation, assassinations, vote rigging, etc. etc. to subvert local electoral systems and shut it down. And when it does win, we embargo and sanction it into poverty.

What Russia does and is attempting to do to us, we do to countries around the world to fight socialism. And if Russia was able to do what it was able to do to a system as old and as solid as ours, imagine what a far richer and more powerful country can do to a small fledgeling democracy.

Not to be difficult, but you're asking about 20 questions here, not the least of which are "what do you mean by freedom" and "what do you mean by prosperity". There are socialist regimes I think were better than others, but even those were not allowed to survive and thrive.

They were subject to oppression and violence before they were founded, constantly assaulted when they existed, and have been perpetually distorted and lied about after their collapse. You just can''t talk about socialism without addressing the determination of imperial capital to destroy it.

And even then, most of them - the USSR, Cuba, China, Yugoslavia, the DDR - managed, whatever their admitted flaws, to make life vastly better in many ways for a huge majority of people. As we say, if socialism was self-evidently a failure, they wouldn't spend so much energy trying to crush it!
