I think the governors (Walz, Whitmer, Shapiro, Beshear, Newsom, Hochul etc) need to get some GOP governors on board and figure out a way to take control. GOP govs already seeing repercussions in their states’ economies. Well I can hope.

Good. I know I’m not spending money outside my blue state if at all possible. And not spending much of anything except on food. Signed up at Costco. I’ve got enough coffee to last me for awhile now.
Vermont R-Gov Scott has been very quiet on the Trump administration - a great governor overall. Our D-A.G. and VT delegation (Rep. Balint, Sen-Welsh, Sen-Sanders) have been fantastic.
See?!?! I think at state level there’s a lot more room for agreement. Hell I don’t think my senators (Cruz, Cornyn) could find Texas on a map much less care about their citizens. That’s not to say Abbott is reasonable. My hope is prison for him.
Ha.... Gov. Scott is in his 3rd term (I think). Republican Governor in a very BLUE Vermont. He works with the legislature really well. Was outstanding during COVID. Has a great group of commissioners.... Got a R-Lt. Governor this past cycle. Likely more balance this term.
I have great hope @govpritzker.illinois.gov will be at forefront of governors' revolt. He's eloquent, speaks to least among us and isn't worried about his right flank (as maybe Beshear, Kelly, Whitmer are). I'm just a snack cake but I hope Pritzker feels the good vibes from Texas.
Someone much smarter than me would know how to deploy state resources-LEO and/or withhold tax payments and/or set up their own HC info clearinghouse at state universities. I dunno. But govs need to meet and talk it through.
I’m probably not smarter than you, but I do know that states contribute to the federal revenue every year, and many dem states do not get back in aid or funding nearly as much as they pay in. If he’s threatening zero funding for non-compliance? Just saying…
"States" pay in, yes, but really, every employer is required by law to be a tax collector, and employers send payroll withholdings directly to the Fed, bypassing state governments. I'm not sure how that could be changed to depositing directly to states, that then send it on... or not.
It could probably be done somehow by state legislatures, re-designing the depositing system - but I sure as hell cannot see how it could be done quickly.
If the governors & state legislators can figure that out, it would have the effect of a magnitude 9.9 earthquake - just what Felon47 needs! 😂
The traditional way is cash under the table. 😺 If you're an employee, you could file a W-4 with your employer with a high number of deductibles they aren't allowed to question to effectively halt w/holding Fed income tax. FICA w/holding isn't affected at all. State is a separate declaration.
I'm all for anything that will help fight back. But, I think taxes come out of our pay & go right to the Feds. I don't think there's any way we can stop payroll tax from going to DC unless we all change our withholding to exempt or change the number you claim on your W4 to 99 or something.
I think it’s ok to call and just say you have concerns. We elect them to protect our interests, not to do our bidding. They just *need* to hear we’re concerned.
I'm a proud Democrat. I'm proud of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats for how they navigated the first 4 years. I'm looking for people to unite with. And I'm not sorry for being the good guy.💙🇺🇲

Here’s the latest breakdown I saw on which states pay or owe more.
(maybe our governors should really just take everything back to the states, since that’s what they say they want anyway)
