If I’m being charitable, something to do with the spaghetti code it’s built on. But given it’s been six years and Hrothgar and Viera were new additions that came after the 1.0, I do not feel charitable.
The issue I have with that excuse is that the character models were released long after 2.0. If they're blaming the ears, then what of Miqo'te? They have ears on top of their heads too and they can use hats.
