I guess she was making the point that he didn’t understand her position as she was a black woman. It represents the imbalance in power in the situation (male taxi driver vs female passengers). If she said he was a stupid white (something) then it would be different to “stupid and white”. - ThreadSky

the question often raised is can you be racist to a white man - given the definition of racism, the answer would be no....which as it would appear is how the jury saw it.

I don’t agree with that. In the most egregious of cases, racism to a white person (not nec. a “man”) must be possible, eg banning a white person from a regular sports team. Unless,of course, you make it true by definition because all the historic abuse of black people by white people.

Sam Kerr is part-Indian (on her father’s side). So calling her “black” is itself problematic. I think “person of colour” is more accurate.
Also, would I - as a middle-aged white man - ever be allowed to say someone didn’t understand my position because they were black or of colour?
