Well, one of the biggest ways MAGA/Trump/GOP plans on achieving those cuts is by changing ACA Medicaid expansion so that the feds only pay the same 61% they do for "standard" Medicaid instead of the 90% they do for expansion now.

So, WI would have zero reason to expand...

...and just about every other state would DROP their expansion programs, since their share of the cost would increase by between 2x - 5x depending on the state.

A handful of states would try to scrape together enough money to offset a portion of the cost but it'd only amount to a small fraction.

P.S. For those wondering: Yes, the *federal* government would have to pick up a larger chunk of the tab...but not as much as you may think.

Why? Well, right now the feds are paying ~$914M/yr for the ~277K enrollees.

Under full expansion, they'd pay ~$1.72B/yr for ~353K enrollees, or ~$806M more...

...EXCEPT that *right now* the feds are already paying ~$8,000/yr for each of the ~55,000 $0-premium ACA enrollees who would be shifted over to Medicaid instead.

That means the feds would *save* ~$440M/yr in reduced ACA subsidies, or over half of that $806M increase.
