I explained what the current top contenders want and why. They want to be a champion (which should be every wrestlers’ goal & again has been Mox’s main message to the whole roster). Some of the contenders just have different motivations for winning the title depending the heel/face alignment.

Darby is for the whole of AEW not to fall under MOX
OC is a personal rivalry and helping AEW through his efforts
Hangman wants what is "rightfully" his, the AEW world title
COPE has the same mindset of MOX except on opposite ends, until, he joins???

See, I get this to a degree but it’s the whole defending AEW bit when it’s not clear what AEW is. Mox isn’t destroying AEW, nothing has changed. So what are Darby and OC defending? Cope says nobody wants to be AEW champion on Collision. What? The whole fight for AEW doesn’t work when nothing changes

Imo, I think you’re too caught up on the “defending AEW” idea as literal. They don’t have to literally save AEW because Mox isn’t trying to destroy it. The faces are trying to take back control of the AEW title because the person with the title is the face of the company…

And they feel he isn’t the best representative of AEW as the champion because of his obvious devious tactics to keep the belt and purposely harming other wrestlers. The heels/tweeners don’t care about any of that, they just want the title and the clout that comes with it.

And I think when you heard Cope say “nobody wants to be champion” he was quoting what Mox said in a earlier promo because Mox doesn’t think anyone is willing to do what needs to be done to be champion, in his view.
