So.. is GO electrification still happening or are we just double tracking 4 lines and running diesels every 15 minutes?

It's only 50 years since the Super GO electrification proposal. I hope to live a few decades more, but I don't expect this stuff to get done in my lifetime. In the meantime, Metrolinx has quite a few level crossings to the deal with (and they shouldn't be able to screw that up).

I find my baseline expectations matter. If GO had come out and said we are starting on a multi decade modernization project to double track, remove level crossings and increase service frequencies I would have said great idea. But they set the baseline at S-bahn and now I'm bitterly disappointed.

Maybe blame me: In early 1999 I was in on a discussion about what the GTTA (Metrolinx's predecessor) should make its top 3 priorities in the wake of the Harris's cuts. I recommended turning the GO network into an S-Bahn setup, building a U-shaped subway through the core and integrating GO+TTC fares.

Those are the right 3 priorities! It's just communication of timelines being botched. Electrification is still on their GO expansion pages even though it looks to me like electrification and infill stations are being treated as a next generation project.
