ahhh okay, i haven’t read the general reviews, i’m referring more to the tenor of the fan discussion i’ve seen on social media. i’m concerned about how they’re gonna resolve some of the lore issues but choosing to believe in the writers for now.
I'm going to jump in and say it's objectively poorly done. People are free to enjoy it, but the cinematography is years out of date and way, way off what's expected for 2024 prestige TV. The writing and acting are both abysmal as well, and the score is a crime even before it's compared to Zimmer.
honestly i can see those criticisms. i don't have a great eye for cinematography, but i have definitely been disappointed by the score. i went in with extremely low expectations because of the reliance on brian herbert lore, so i am just trying to have fun with whatever it is.
There's a lot of scenes where the sets, costumes, lighting, etc. are all fine and the camera work is just absolutely worse than that in Firefly, which was a low budget show two decades ago. If you want to feel it, even without a great sense for cinematography, watch the Tleilaxu guy/Emperor scenes.
