What Trump was willing to ignore about Gaetz to reward loyalty is something to keep in mind when looking at the rest of his rogues gallery of a cabinet.

I don't think he was ignoring it.
I think he wanted the leverage over Gaetz, and if the info came out, it's another "eff you, we can do what we want" to the country.
Willing to ignore? Those were positives to Trump. Gaetz knows how to get girls and drugs. That fits the model of the Trump White House perfectly. And it makes women feel like crap! Definitely not "willing to ignore." You're missing the point.
I think of it from the other point of view - hiring criminals you know and can show are criminals are a way to enforce loyalty to you and your own criminal efforts. What Gaetz did wasn't ignored, it was what specifically made him "qualified".
I think because it sounds kind a little too old spy novel a lot of people discount how much Trump’s whole operation embraces kompromat. But even before politics, pretty sure sleazy leverage was key to his operation.
It involves kompromat, but also a lot of impulsive stupidity. Remember that he picked Gaetz on the basis of Gaetz talking to him on the plane, then he essentially cut him loose when it became obvious he couldn’t be confirmed.
I think it was a quid pro quo offer. It’s crucial we don’t let Mike Johnson off the hook, he knew, tried to suppress it to please Trump, he got every house rep except one to agree with him. I’m thinking the Hilary pedophile cabal conspiracy was all projection. The GOP is moral dirt. Call your reps.
Obligatory:
"Totalitarianism in power invariably replaces all first-rate talents, regardless of their sympathies, with those crackpots and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity is still the best guarantee of their loyalty."
Hannah Arendt, The Origins of Totalitarianism
The United States had better hope that its “checks and balances” system comes with a TON of people who are loyal to their country and not their party. Cuz the next four years are going to be…….difficult.

Triggering the libs.
Trump: "I want Matt Gaetz to be my Attorney General."
Vetting committee: "Good choice. He's clean."

I"m at a point where I need to be reassured this boat hasn't become too large to turn around.
Yep. Bummed.
