Researchers secretly added AI-created papers to the exam pool: “We found that 94% of our AI submissions were undetected. The grades awarded to our AI submissions were on average half a grade boundary higher than that achieved by real students”

As parent to a gifted mech engineer college student with disabilities, we must not conflate Assistive Technology with AI. If we don’t separate those two, we will automatically discount achievements & squander potential of millions of disabled kids. Professors/Deans/et al need to grasp that.

I can't imagining being an educator right now grappling with this. Why do I feel like we're rapidly approaching fed up teachers using AI to grade papers written by AI?

I have a friend who has one more year of teaching & then is retiring at 55. Her school district has been pretty reasonable with this new technology, but it’s the parents who have become worse she says.

Pretty sure one of my drs already uses it to send clinical letters. Dr. doesn't even check it. One was a complete (embarrassing) diagnosis of my eye infection and it went on to say that the dr. had spoken to me about how to fix the problem & *none* of it was true. An eye dr. diagnosed & fixed it.

Very likely that the AI cheerleader solution will be to simply use AI to catch students using AI.

Remember it wasn't that long ago that it was pretty easy to plagarize/copy work, so software was developed to catch students doing that.

The other solution would be to develop something that requires self-driving style policing mechanisms to monitor students while they complete papers, tests, etc. Eye contact with screen, keyboard inputs, etc.

But it's gross that that is what it will come to.
