I think there were a lot of first time protesters out there today because there’s millions of people that know this is all gravely wrong and they don’t know what else to do. It would be nice if opposition leadership could show half the passion.

Protesting for the first time is hard. You feel exposed. You interrupt your life. However, after participating in a successful protest you feel energized. You feel elated being a part of something bigger than yourself. It is exciting.
Congratulations to everyone who participated! You did it!
My neighbor walked with us to the protest today in Worcester. She said it was her first one ever and I would guess she is in her 50s. We MUST keep this up!
Sanders in 2016 would have prevented all of this. 🤷🏻♂️ (and before you all assume i’m some “bernie bro” (as if that’s a bad thing)- i voted for Clinton- in the general election)
My mom is 76 and hasn’t been to a protest since anti-nuclear war demonstrations in the 1970s. She and I went to the rally in our small southern college town today.
I encountered just such a one today. We were walking from parking to the protest site and he proceeded to tell me this was his first time protesting. He spent 40 years as a cop then a lawyer, so he had to be at least my age. He said he didn't know what it would accomplish, but he just had to do it.
the dems are not leadership. and they're not concerned.
check it: The Democrats are complicit.
do you need examples? i have them. they are only posting the occasional tweet "this sucks for america" when there should be an emergency session of congress to halt the govt entirely.
they are complicit
Some of my local leaders have been showing up to protests, including today in St Paul. They know we’re paying attention to who’s taking action and that this is just the beginning.
We should also make known the things they are doing, like Booker's filibuster, and Democratic AGs suing the Trump administration, and the Senate's voteathons.
Midnight votes on amendments don't get as much attention as mass protests, it's up to us to spread those words.
Historically it was meant to give the minority power some ability to stop or slow down the passage of legislation in the Senate, at least to give the minority party time to change the majority's mind.
But then in 2008 Republicans weaponized the filibuster, abusing it.
Unfortunately the filibuster still has a use, since there's no other way to stop or slow down bad Republican legislation when they have a majority, and Republicans only write bad legislation.
In the rules a filibuster is allowed to continue until either the person gives up speaking, or until 60 Senators vote to end the filibuster and advance the bill.
Technically what Booker did wasn't a filibuster, it was more of a vigil. Not everything can be filibustered. It's complicated.

I hope more independent candidates spring from the ashes of this chaos.

they're allowing the constitution to be trampled.
they are complicit in this.
they're just sad they didn't start it, but they sure are making sure it happens.
That's a lot of voters.
which is great because this was a live civics lesson
we can peacefully protest
we need to be vocal and vigilant every day
there's no resistance leadership.
we're on our own. for now.

🙄
it would benefit some to realize that very few people on the left have ALL the same opinions as the left
there is no blue koolaid on the left

For WEEKS, everyone was SCREAMING “yeah democrats have no power right now, but they need to be speaking up to let us know they’re on our side!!”
then someone does exactly that and suddenly it’s “ugh what would a speech have done anyway”
