It’s the same with adult social care and elder care. Some of the largest care providers are owned ultimately by Private Equity firms. The system stinks.

Isn't it similar within elderly care?An average cost of £6k per month per resident,with minimum staff paid minimum wage,no sick pay or benefits,poor-quality food that’s inexpensive to prepare,no premium TV for residents,staff having to use their own Netflix accounts etc..

We warned about this over 20 years ago. It came about following scandals in council run children’s homes. We warned against letting the pvt sector in and instead suggested that childrens homes and foster care should be a centralised gov dept outside of la responsibility.

Privatisation = Profit. The more challenging the higher the price and profit.
Squeeze the price, ignore quality and you end up with the cheap 15 minute home visit V the 2 hour visit paid by the wealthy.
Simply restricting profit is not the answer. Kids will be harmed by lower grade homes.

My dad & siblings were raised in a wonderful Barnados village in the 1930's {after gran went to prison}. They had stability, education, learned respect, given apprenticeships & turned out great role models. Nowadays fostering is fragmented, leading to dysfunctional & very sad kids/adults

The same thing is happening in childrens homes and leavers hostels where the taxpayer is ripped off and the children sold short. The profit motive just does not provide the right motivation for running such institutions - the privatisation myth is a disgraceful lie and innocent people suffer.

I read somewhere, last year, that the majority of children's homes for example are actually now owned by Saudis (investment obvs). Note how there was no mention of the owners of these services in the clip. Councils had to sell them because Tories cut grants to councils. Ditto for care homes etc.

We need a national enquiry into the costs of secure accommodation for children, and the conditions they are kept in. Seen a fair few in my career that I wouldn’t leave my dog in.
