The US is basically two nations: The Old Confederacy and everywhere else. The latter part has metrics closer to the EU; the former is closer to developing nations.
In 1970 health care was a public good, and hospitals run as nonprofits focused on patient care (within available resources)
today health care is infested with feral capitalism, optimizing revenue per patient (or revenue per bed per day) with lots of extractive hands in the till
I strongly believe health care is a public good, like education, and feral capitalism (predatory capitalism, extractive capitalism) must not be permitted to touch public goods
Capitalism means finding something everybody wants.
The more people want it the more profit you can make.
Nobody has actually found the elixir of life so they make up stuff and sell it to the gullible.
Other countries think it's worth trying to heal people rather than fleece them.
Socialist cnuts!
Thx for sharing. This is concerning for Americans. That said correlation is not necessarily causation. One hypothesis could be that the cost of care in the US is higher due to privatisation thus less care and hence longevity. But also consider other hypotheses related to lifestyle.
American health care system is like a house in a cold winter, with all windows opens : money is trown in the furnace, but it fly by the window, because nothing is done to actually take care of the health of the population and reduce inequality of acces, povery, illetrism, any social determinants...
Americans have convinced ourselves that our health care is the best in the world ... which, for the rich, it is. Meanwhile we pay more for less than darn near anywhere else, and spend massive amount on corn and dairy subsidies that make our food garbage.
This is a great visual demonstration of the truth that Americans refuse to realise - that state organised universal healthcare is cheaper to deliver for the same or better outcome.
