This was a deliberate plan to run down public services and move towards privatisation. At the same time, more managers were introduced in some sectors to try and ration NHS spending and cut costs. And we all know how that went. Then consultants were brought in, and now we have a broken system.
Just remember that man, in a question time audience, complaining directly to Tony Blair that he was booked to see a GP *that same day* instead of the day after as would be his preference. 🤦🏽♂️
Absolutely correct, I would like to touch upon something. If it could be said that anti-public health was an example of the public acting against it's own interests by means of influence from think-tanks. Who is the beneficiary?
Since surrendering to infectious disease, it's obvious that this had an impact on waiting lists alongside austerity.
Funny enough, now that all the usual media rot settled. it's started to settle a lot. I dare say letting covid rip at the behest of AEIR and the anti-everything squad is related.
If more illness = more profit for some companies and it is also less likely that the Koch Network have the government's ears as much, this would explain a lot.
Generating a crisis deliberately would be something that the tories would pull to make money, no problem. It's nothing to them.
Anti-science looks like it was about Milking a bad situation. If or not that would mean hardship for a population means nothing to these billionaires. They want us to slowly barbecue ourselves with fossil fuels too.
So there's no reason they wouldn't take advantage of a public health crisis.
It took the Blair govt 10 years last time to fully turnaround the NHS. Took the Tories 30 months to kill it off with CCGs, no strategic health function and ministers all too keen to see InHealth, Spire Healthcare and Ramsay Healthcare et al making/taking money out of our misfortune
Certainly not unknown but not mentioned nearly enough is the huge population bulge hitting retirement age now - that is putting an ever increasing amount of pressure on the NHS. Of course the Tories knew this the entire 14 yrs they were underfunding the NHS.
I had a medical emergency a couple of years ago. I called 111 for advice and then 999. I was advised by both not to drive to the hospital, but they wouldn’t send out an ambulance to come and get me. Both told me to call a relative or friend to take me. I had to wait about 7+ hours for a lift….
…A few years ago in my town, they always had ambulances at a health centre which would pick anybody up within 30 minutes. They are gone. People are now also waiting many days for GP appointments, whereas we used to be able to get one the very same afternoon we called.
Fun how conservatives will use one outlier story to create a mandate to cut funding in order to make services worse & then use those worse outcomes as ammo to continue degrading those services until they can finally profit from them directly once they are inevitably shuttered & privatized
One 90min ER visit in the US- $5K. I understand why people die of the flu, but I don't understand why receiving fluids cost $2100 (literally JUST the act of pressing the plunger down, the fluids themselves cost $$$ too).
I thought you were talking about the CONservatives in Canada. They are destroying our Public Healthcare system here in Provinces they control. And we will be screwed big time, like America is, if PoiLIEvre ever gets elected PM
The current Labour government is trying to be more Tory than the Tories.. I don't think we will get back to this. Just more of NHS sold off to private companies.
No matter how many lies the right wing press spew out, remember, the Tories deliberately went out to destroy the NHS and brought the country to it’s knees while filling their bank accounts
Our ER wait times are so atrocious in Ontario that they are no longer tracked. Thanks conservative premier DF. Oh, and he has also gutted special education. How did he get a second term?!?
Who cant get a Dr. appointment in America within a week? Insurance is terrible and costly but Ive never had an issue getting in to see any GP or specialist within a week.
Dunno how much its been cut, but a larger load of people needing aid would make healthcare available for the brittish population. Also, maybe they wouldn't have to cut if immigrants didn't also need other resources that has to be paid for.
Well the immigrants is a tangible drain on resources but the politicians can only shuffle budget posts. A 5% use of medical resources should lead to a 5% increase of the NHS budget, but the total budget hasn't increased 5%.
I don't blame the immigrants but the politicians and media that brought them
They were too busy partying to care about running the country. And no-one has been brought to book for the shameful damage they have done to our beautiful Britain.
Shameful!!.
US->UK expat. My ankle never recovered after I fell down a flight of stairs and had to take the phone away from a friend and tell the 911 operator to please not send an ambulance. NHS may suck, but the US is something else.
The NHS Is powered by wonderful , talented and hard working immigrants who's work is routinely and deliberately confounded by indigenous politicians who get money from private healthcare investors
I’m 100% with you that 14 yrs of conservatives was a serious case of self-harm… but…
There was also a pandemic.
If we don’t mention it, then those who blame it for all the crap we’ve had to put up with will feel legitimised.
Here in Canada we call 811 and then we wait 48-72 hrs before a call back from them. If it's a 911 then go to the hospital and there you can wait 20 hrs to actually see a doctor, triage goes pretty fast mind you. 2 wks ago I wait about 14 hrs to get a docs note for work
While there are still snake oil salesmen (like Streeting) who maintain that there's a way of getting the NHS working properly again by means of privatising (major parts of) it, however that's dressed up, that won't happen. It will take a lot public money and a solid socialist underpinning.
I was rather sceptical about those claims so did a bit of quick research and YES, it's all true. In just a relatively short space of time the Tories destroyed the NHS in all of the above.
The UK has slipped from 1st World into 3rd World in the past 15 years. Capitalists - parasites of society - have bled the country dry. Sucked every last drop of blood and left a carcass only.
Complaining the NHS was making them come in too quickly
A free and functional health service makes little private profit. The grifting (hustling?) right wing scum want profit and to fuck the rest of society. They'll do anything to get it.

The NHS needs to buy medications from somewhere.

Because there was money involved, it won't be a coincidence that the skeptic brigade are infesting USA health bodies either.
Can't imagine why, we are a customer too.

So there's no reason they wouldn't take advantage of a public health crisis.
U-turn & a race to the bottom since the internet exploded. Current pacesetters being Musk/X…
We should provably turn the whole thing off & protect our children from the death spiral..
Or are you speaking about in the UK?
Where do you live? Sounds good
Brilliant argument

Shameful!!.
Who’s in charge of health in Scotland?
It’s difficult to keep up.
I don’t know how much is devolved.
"YEAH, THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN CONSERVATIVES ARE IN CHARGE FOR YEARS AND YEARS."
I know that's simplistic, but it's fun to watch people's brains glitch coming up against an actual fact.
She yelled at me because she "couldn't afford an ambulance!"
Her friend finally insisted on a trip to the ER. She had a concussion and a couple broken ribs.
She was a public school teacher.

We need rid of the Tories, including the ones in Labour.
