Canada is low on the list. Here in BC we have the third lowest prices in the country. BC is 4x the size of the UK, and has about 3 million less population (customers) our power lines run through incredibly tough landscapes. Most of the system requires helicopters to maintain, and lines are exposed
Regularly to in excess of -40°C and +40°C. In comparison the cost of maintaining power to just over 5 million cannot logically be scaled to the UK system with 68 million. https://youtu.be/xVvWiNhCJFU
Individual households also invested and keep investing in RE. This is our house -- investment is long paid off, energy for free now (sorry for the German captions; original is at the office):
To put that in perspective: The average US household consumes 10,204 kWh annually. The average German household stands at 3382 kWh. Industry is more complex. High prices are an incentive for companies to massively invest in self generated renewable energy, and they did. Accounts for 14% in Germany.
Not quite
The ‘Energy Price Cap’ is derived from the highest cost producer (ie gas) to ensure we have “spread”
However you’d expect in a market economy, prices wouldn’t be set by the worst but the best.
Re Gas: we also pay a premium as
a) no longer in EEX
b) 3wks storage
= distressed purchaser
Put in a gas water heater - 20€ a month. Electricity is 70€ a month down from 130€ . 3 kids - lots of washing / dish washing / cooking. I work from home. Also have a music studio. No central heating (fireplace / local wood). Have a second house (rented out)
on top of a hill (cold) 45 a month.
The graphic is the price for 1000 kWh, which is about 10 times the monthly UK domestic user.
For comparison, in Ontario, Canada, a typical house costs C$102 a month for hydroelectricity and C$127 equity billing for natural gas. A 100 sq.m. condo with electric heating is about C$320 in the winter.
Electricity Companies: why don't you appoint a regulator to help us make ever increasing profits?
(They're funded by fees paid to them by the companies they regulate)........
Not as straightforward as it looks, the UK gets a large percentage of it's electricity from gas, which since the Ukraine conflict has risen sharply in price.
Some of those other countries aren't so reliant on gas.

The deadliest of all the sins!!
Our network is completely privatised and the Government lets them charge whatever they want.
Which is why all the Energy Companies have been posting 4-10x profits for the last 3 years.
