I went on holiday there, they are poor but are happy. There is no one out of work and no homelessness. They have a cancer hospital which is one of the best in the world. If it wasn't for the blockade they would be in an even better situation.

Did you know that many of the bar staff, waiters etc in Cuban resorts are doctors, engineers etc? They can make more in a day in a holiday resort than a month working as a doctor in a hospital.

Not surprisingly, those Cubans who contact tourists are happy

Yes because even doctors and engineers don't get extremely high wages but are happy and make up there money by being waiters they are happy to do that. The children there all aspire to be doctors, accountants etc., as they want to help their country. You obviously haven't been there.

I've been to Cuba 4 times. The 1st time, our guide was a former heart surgeon. He made more in a day as a guide than he did in a month as a surgeon. He loves his country but hates the USA. Understandable really.

Communism is socialism but socialism has many forms which aren’t communism and pretty well every country has some socialist policies. America would benefit from significantly more socialist policies. Unfettered capitalism is destructive and divisive. It’s not the most productive solution.

Both can be slave systems if abused. Capitalism is based on concepts of free market competition and individual freedom and private property rights, which are good. Nothing about it requires slavery or exploitation anymore than socialism does, but it must be regulated to curtail mafia practices.

I lived in Venezuela and left when Chavez took over as all signs pointed to authoritarianism and increased corruption under his rule. Maduro made it even worse.

This is how it USED to be, but in more recent times there is barely any food for people to eat, the electricity is a mess and people try to avoid the hospitals because they get put in pre-blood drenched and vomited on sheets that haven’t been cleaned. Money is not spent on infrastructure anymore.
