In the UK we have scientists that are very capable of equations that put medicines together that will be a fraction of what the big pharmas charge. But the government prefer their fingers in the bigger pies.

I completely agree that healthcare shouldn't be about profit. However, private companies do drive innovation—often with public funding. The issue is price gouging, not research itself. The key is regulation: ensuring access and affordability while still encouraging medical advancements.
