Maybe but v odd to equate having a load of benefits afforded to the public in a well-functioning social democracy with happiness! In 2019 according to WHO Denmark's suicide rates (per 100K) were higher than those for UK & just slightly lower than in Iceland & Norway, two other such democracies.
Can you share your sources, because the suicide rate is historically low in Denmark. It was very bad in the 80s but the trend has changed dramatically according to official figures in Denmark. I would very much like to see your sources. The suicide rate in Denmark in 2024 was 10.6 per 100,000
Yes of course:
"Suicide rates by gender and country, age-standardized, per 100K population, World Health Organization, 2019"
.. when Denmark's suicide rate was 7.6 so it's risen in the last 5 years.
not “Verdensmål”. I find it hard to believe why they should have a stake in that. Wonderful Copenhagen or another tourist organization could have that agenda. In any case, it's stupid to avoid the facts, we're not the USA 😎
You know what argument people make? There’s little diversity. Once I heard that argument I never brought up Denmark again. Seems like it would be a great place to visit though
Scandinavians generally acknowledge that great public services for ALL , cost money . They regard taxation as their duty not something to be evaded & moaned about .
If the Tories have scammed you for 14 yrs, blame them , not the concept of a security net for all .
they committefñd genocide against the native Greenlanders and , when they've made enough money, they leave to come and live in Spain. Which also has free health care, education and retirement if you contribute
Be honest. Nothing is free, welfare is paid for with taxes. Denmark has no minimum wage by law, wages and working hours are negotiated between unions and employers. The 35-hour workweek depends on the agreement between them. And Finland is the happiest country in the world. 😉
Very impressive public transport too. Watched a youtuber go from one end of Denmark to the other by bus. Punctual, reliable, clean, integrated timetables between buses and trains to reduce waiting, universal payment system across the whole country. Seemed to put the UK to shame, yet alone the US!
I was there last year.
We're struggling with a suitcase and these two guys who are working stop, walk over and help us. They were so friendly we were actually put off for a moment -- are they scamming us?
But if they give the workers 25$ an hour it means the immoral, corrupt, greedy bosses would get less money to accumulate. Sorry that isn't the capitalist way sure. We need to make sure these rich people of ours get as much as the stupids give them. 🤷♂️
Any western country is miles ahead of the US in everything.
Except for greed, poor education, the rate of bankruptcies because of medical bills, racism, bigotry, idiocy and oligarchy rule.
I hear the same about Norway, it’s not *that* simple. There’s no minimum wage, it’s set by Union collective bargaining. Service sector is typically last to the bargaining table. Strikes (and the threat of) are common, I can’t see the UK or USA being equipped to negotiate nationally
Healthcare comes from higher tax, I have no issue with it, but that’s me by a big university hospital. Other than that it’s a postcode lottery still and a *LOT* of referrals to private clinics covered by the state. Prescriptions are roughly £20 pop for basic stuff.
But, Greenland could have it's first Trumpski tower and gold course after his stooges increase rate of climate change. Greenland will be GREEN ALL YEAR ROUND AND TENS OF THOUSANDS OF MAGA ANTI-SCIENCE CRAZY CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN NAZI CULT MEMBERS WILL MOVE FROM PLACES LIKE IOWA, TEXAS AND FLORIDA.
Their Education Systems are substantially, graded A+Excellent compared to 🇺🇸 F Poor ratings are near the bottom. Well if you look at this administration you can understand why👀

More seriously,I heard once that Denmark had one of the lower differentials between high paid and low paid people, which would be great if true.

Nope.
Just the friendliest people ever!
Also a standard work week is 37 hours not 35.

Canada is also better than the US
Denmark is frequently in the top 3 though.
why can't scotland have this?
