Your naivety screams out. The first job I did was non-unionised labouring, working for a unionised workforce. We were treated like scum. Sadly , most unions operate on good capitalist principles. Unions are important, but not untainted.

Once the members forget that they *are* the union and the union’s leaders become as, or more, powerful than the employers then things start to go downhill. Certainly if the U.K. in the 1970s is anything to go by.

I have to agree. Conversely, if you look at employment in the UK since 1990 the quality and security has declined massively. So we do need Unions, but they are not automatically the panacea

Strong agree with both of you. What we really need is the bosses and the unions to work TOGETHER like they largely (have to) do in places like Germany. Less confrontation, more partnership.

If the Trade Unions ran the UK, there would be far fewer jobs. Trade Unions are very good at complaining about problems, very bad at proposing solutions. Theres a reason why Unions dont make share ownership a key part of their pay demands....they dont want to own the revenue generation side.
