Meanwhile, some town councillors local to me, who each week give hours and hours of their free time to help benefit the local community, are ‘rewarded’ to the tune of £20 per month - others forego this payment. Too many MPs taking as much as they can. They’re a disgrace.

Every MP I have ever known (from all parties) work in their constituencies when they are not at Westminster. I know that our MP takes at most 2 weeks holiday during the year, and works 6/7 days a week. He works in London away from his family Mon to Thurs and then in his constituency Fri/Sat.

It should be a job which pays reasonably for the responsibility, otherwise people will not give up their job to do it, but it should be their only job. Mostly they work in their constituencies when not at Westminster & need a properly staffed office to help handle the local work

A good MP wouldn't be on holiday for a third of the year. They would be in their constituency working when the house isn't sitting.

Though I accept, some of the less salubrious MPs need that third of a year to fit in their other jobs.
