Haven’t heard of it either. My mom’s signature dish from that era was “chicken wino”, but I wouldn’t call that “goopy.”
I’ve replaced Thanksgiving turkey with it a few times as a way to remember her.

It’s an American-ized version of “le Coque au vin”, chicken is cooked in a pan with a lot of red wine and some other things (vegetables, stock). It’s delicious, but takes a while.

That does sound really good. But I need to know the history now, why is it called company chicken? I'm guessing it was a common food provided at employee canteens, and was easy/cheap to make at scale?
