I was young, but I remember it well! My dad was very anti-anti war protestors. He supported the Nat. Guard's action--initially.
Then the ages and the faces of the victims were published. An unsympathetic Republican hawk, working in nuke weapons research, changed. And it changed him forever!
Over the next 2-4 years, there’s going to be a lot of despair and people feeling like there’s no hope - we’re all going to need something to hold on to and that is each other. We can and will all get through this together and this song is a song of hope and resilience and reflects all of this - yes?
I got to know the writer of that song over the years. We’ve had a couple of beers together, and I booked him to speak at a conference on pastor/activists. Sonny Tongue. Cool guy.
I discovered this song sround 2016 when I first listened to Rolling Stones top 100 progressive rock albums. It was the best song on the album by far. In 2018 when Anthony Bourdain died I found out this was his favorite song. I will always miss him
