This feels like a similar-ish case.
One is only considered "more canon" than the other because it has more connections to the original Homestuck comic.
They are both their own stories, and they're pretty obviously going to eventually end up merging in HS2.
Meat and Candy are simply two readings from a fan perspective of how to interpret that.
Either with more connections to the main comic, or with a focus on it's characters
