Go down Moses

In the popular shifting desert sands
a puffed-up plastic Moses arose
who promised to part the crisis seas
with the rod of his tongue, I suppose.

He comes from a long line of mock Moseses
holding toothpicks like a magical staff:
He’ll part the minds with false promises
and miraculously turn wheat into chaff.
🧵👇🏼
As ever, he parts no raging red seas
with God’s power in his outstretched arm.
Instead he’s covered in a coven of fleas
who happily feast on his Israelites’ scars.

I watch resigned. Once again, our tribes
chase after the newest incarnation:
A junk Joshua who holds two tablets of lies
that tribes swallow to cure desperation.

There will not be any manna from high
in this mannequin Moses’ holy land.
He himself is the golden calf whose lies
turn milk and honey to quicksand.
